SC East Bengal is coming up with some late blitz. It edged past former champion, Bengaluru FC, in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21, at the Fatorda Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday. The win allowed SCEB to rise to the ninth place, while Bengaluru suffered its fourth consecutive defeat to stay on sixth.
The opening half saw three attacks until the 14th minute, including a save from Bengaluru goalkeeper, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. Nonetheless, five minutes later, Matti Steinmann put SCEB ahead with his right-footed strike to the bottom-right, from the centre.
There were hardly any attempts made thereon, with just a couple of attacks from either side, while SCEB's Debjit Majumder came up with a save. After a composed first half, SCEB led at the half-time.
The second half saw a more attacking approach from Bengaluru, while both the side produced a total of 12 attacks. It also saw four more saves from Majumder and one from Sandhu, but none of the sides could have another goal, as, after a frustrating second half, SCEB walked away with the slender win.
SCEB would now face Kerala Blasters FC on Friday. Meanwhile, Bengaluru faces NorthEast United FC on Tuesday.
