West Bengal Imams' Association requests people not to vote for Asaduddin Owaisi’s party

The Bengal Imam Association on Sunday (January 10) has made a public request to voters in West Bengal to not vote in favour of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. 

The head of Bengal Imam Association, Mohammad Yahya said, “Every vote to the AIMIM is a vote for the BJP. Why does a Hyderabadi politician develop into energetic in states solely the place BJP faces robust opposition in profitable elections?”

The BJP, which has been accusing chief minister Mamata Banerjee of appeasing the minority community for years, has said that AIMIM is an independent party and can contest anywhere.

Several senior clerics, civil society teams, and youth boards have begun cautioning the people of Bengal that radical minority political formations don’t have any place in the state.

Siddiqullah Chowdhury, a minister in the TMC government and president of the Jamiat Ulema - e –Hind’s state branch has also declared that Owaisi has no place in Bengal politics.

The West Bengal Imams’ Association has reacted to Owaisi’s plans, saying there is no place for communal politics in Bengal. Of about 40,000 mosques in Bengal, clerics from at least 26,000 are members of the association.
