People in Raiganj of North Dinajpur were excited after rescuing a gharial from a river.  Crowds of enthusiastic people flocked to the area as soon as they heard the news. The locals handed over the gharial to the forest department.

Vitiar is a remote village in the Raiganj block of North Dinajpur. The river Nagar flows through the heart of this village. The river is not too big and does not have enough water all the time.

On Friday (September 4) morning, locals saw a crocodile-like creature floating in the Nagar River. The incident caused a stir in the area. Many became terrified after hearing the news.

Some young men from the village bravely put a rope inside the river and brought the animal ashore. It was then understood that a gharial was floating in the water of Nagar river.

Many people crowded in the area to see Gharial. The urge to take a selfie with the animal spread all over the area. The news was given to the forest department. When the forest department officials reached the spot, the locals handed over the gharial to the officials. The crocodile species is believed to be found in the water of Mahananda or Teesta rivers in the rainy season.
