The air has very high relative humidity, between 84% and 95%. This means if it doesn't rain, the weather will feel extremely stuffy and uncomfortable. There's a high chance of a few spells of heavy or moderate thundershowers in Kolkata, especially from the afternoon into the evening.
The low-pressure system from the Bay of Bengal is moving towards Odisha and the adjoining Gangetic West Bengal. This will bring more rain to the coastal and western districts of South Bengal. A yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for Purulia, Bankura, and Jhargram districts today.

Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, and East and West Medinipur can expect light to moderate rain. These areas might also see gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph. The remaining districts will also have cloudy skies with a chance of light rain.

The monsoon is fully active in the hilly and Dooars regions of North Bengal, bringing a warning for heavy to very heavy rain today. The Met office has issued a forecast for very heavy rainfall in Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar districts for today and tomorrow.

The Met department has also forecast heavy rain with thunderstorms for Kalimpong and Darjeeling districts. Meanwhile, North and South Dinajpur and Malda districts will generally have cloudy skies with light to moderate scattered rainfall.

Special Warning for Fishermen
The low-pressure system will make the North Bay of Bengal very rough. Coastal areas could experience strong winds of 35 to 45 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 60 kmph. Because of this, the Met department has banned fishermen from going into the sea until 24th August.
