Fire breaks out in crowded Goma area

Indian Army UN peacekeepers acted quickly after a fire broke out in a residential area in Goma, a city in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The incident took place in the Bujovi Quarter along Bunyerezo Avenue.

According to officials, the fire started due to an electrical short circuit. It quickly spread to three nearby houses in the densely populated area, creating panic among residents.

Indian troops respond without delay

Troops from the Indian Rapid Deployment Battalion (INDRDB), stationed at the BFI–CHU Camp, rushed to the spot as soon as they were alerted.

On reaching the site, they immediately took control of the situation. Their quick and organised response helped prevent the fire from spreading further.

Residents rescued and area secured

The Quick Reaction Force quickly cordoned off the area to ensure safety. Around 10 to 12 residents were safely evacuated from the affected houses.

At the same time, the Fire Fighting Team started efforts to control the flames. They also searched the houses carefully to make sure no one was trapped inside.

During the rescue, first aid was given to around six to seven injured civilians.

The Indian troops also guided and coordinated with firefighting teams from the LAVA site. This teamwork ensured a fast and well-managed response.

Because of their efforts, the fire was brought under control without any further loss of life or major damage to nearby properties.
