In the previous 24 hours, India recorded 18,833 new cases and 24,770 recoveries. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the active caseload is 2,46,687, the lowest in 203 days. The total number of samples examined up to the 5th of October, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), is 57,68,03,867, including 14,09,825 samples analyzed yesterday.
Kerala, which has been reporting most cases, has also seen a dramatic drop in cases in recent days. It still tops the states in the number of daily cases, at 9,735.
Mizoram has the highest number of daily cases in the northeastern states, with 1,471 cases. In addition, the state recorded seven Covid fatalities. A four-member central team lead by National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) consultant-epidemiologist Dr Vinita Gupta came to Aizawl on Tuesday to examine the COVID-19 situation in the state, amid a rise in cases.
When the World Health Organization and an independent committee of specialists convene next week, Covaxin, India's indigenously made coronavirus vaccine, might be approved. This comes nearly a week after WHO postponed Covaxin's emergency use authorization.

The country's COVID-19 caseload hit two million in May 2021, and it surpassed three million on June 23. Meanwhile, 92.17 crore vaccinations have been administered throughout the country to far. Earlier this week, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that the first dosage of the COVID-19 vaccination has been administered to 70% of India's adult population.
