A 13-year-old girl's alertness of dialing 100 helped police arrest a gang operating a prostitution racket and save her. The irony is that the girl was sold by her stepbrother for Rs 27,000.

According to reports, the incident was reported from Singarayakonda town Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh on July 18. However, the matter came to light only on Tuesday (July 21).

As per information, the girl, a daughter from second marriage, had always witnessed fights in the family due to property-related disputes and recently this volatile situation increased which forced her to stay with her stepbrother in Nellore district.

Taking advantage of she being alone and no support, on July 12,the minor was taken out on the pretext of shopping and was sold.

Sensing something fishy, the girl dialled 100 and sought police help. The police in an undercover operation rescued the girl who was in a state of shock.

Police registered a case against the accused persons for running a prostitution racket and also booked them under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
