The anticipation for Drishyam 3 is at an all-time high, and trade insiders believe the film could emerge as one of the biggest Malayalam openers ever. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the suspense thriller is reportedly heading towards a massive worldwide debut.

Advance booking trends suggest the film has already grossed nearly Rs 25 crore globally even before release day spot bookings begin. Industry trackers feel the momentum could push the opening day worldwide collection beyond Rs 40 crore.

Kerala And Overseas Markets Drive Massive Advance Sales

The domestic response for the film has been exceptional, especially in Kerala. Reports indicate that the state alone has contributed around Rs 6.75 crore in advance bookings, while the overall India gross stands close to Rs 10.5 crore.

International markets are also showing impressive traction. Countries in the Gulf region, along with North America, the UK and Australia, are witnessing strong ticket demand. The overseas performance is expected to play a major role in the film’s opening day total, especially considering the franchise’s loyal fan base across global markets.

Mohanlal Could Challenge His Own Record Again

Interestingly, the biggest Malayalam opening record is already held by L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film reportedly opened at nearly Rs 70 crore worldwide.

While Drishyam 3 may not surpass that benchmark immediately, trade analysts believe it is comfortably on track to become the second biggest Malayalam opener ever. The makers also strategically shifted the release to May 21, which coincides with Mohanlal’s birthday, adding even more excitement among fans.

The film was initially scheduled for an April release but was postponed due to tensions in the Middle East, an important overseas market for Malayalam cinema. Shot across locations like Thodupuzha, Vagamon, Ernakulam and Thiruvalla, the thriller wrapped filming in December 2025.
