Meanwhile, before the season gets underway, the mega auction will be taking place, likely to be held in January. Ahead of the same, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced some retention rules. As per ANI, the new sides would be allowed to purchase three players entering the auction pool after letting go of their respective franchises.

As for this, Ahmedabad and Lucknow have been given a purse of ₹33 crore for the early picks. As for their pick-up rule, they cannot own more than two Indians (capped/uncapped), while they cannot purchase more than an overseas player. Also, the report adds that the franchises cannot pick more than an uncapped Indian.

The existing franchises will have a purse of ₹90 crore in the auction window, while amounts would be deducted based on retentions. They can retain four players, three Indians (capped/uncapped) and one overseas. Also, they cannot keep more than two overseas players and two uncapped Indians. The retention window is November 1-20, while for the new teams, the early pick window is December 1-25.

As far as the deductions are concerned:
Four players: First player- ₹16 crore, Second player- ₹12 crore, Third player- ₹8 crore, Fourth player- ₹6 crore, Total deduction- ₹42 crore
Three players: First player- ₹15 crore, Second player- ₹11 crore, Third player- ₹7 crore, Total deduction- ₹33 crore
Two players: First player- ₹14 crore, Second player- ₹10 crore, Total deduction- ₹34 crore
One player- ₹14 crore
