Former champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have come up with some fascinating performance of late, in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). Finishing at the third spot, they qualified for the playoffs by a commendable Net Run-Rate (NRR).

SRH played Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Eliminator of the playoffs, which they handsomely won by six wickets. Consequently, they would now take on Delhi Capitals (DC) in Qualifier 2 on Sunday, which upon winning, they would qualify for the final to face defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI).

As for the performance of SRH players, David Warner has dominated with the bat. With the ball, it’s Rashid Khan, who has nailed it with his spin. Meanwhile, it is their Windies all-rounder and skipper, Jason Holder, who has been playing exceptionally well in all departments.

Holder has managed to score 55 runs in three innings at an average of 55 and a strike-rate of 144.73. As for his bowling, he has claimed 13 wickets in six matches at an economy of 7.62, thus making him the fourth-highest wicket-taker of the side, this season.

Meanwhile, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir expressed both his delight and surprise at him. While he was delighted with the Barbadian’s performance, he was shocked that he went unsold during the auctions. Holder was roped in as a replacement for injured Australian Mitchell Marsh.

“It was very surprising for me that no one actually went after someone like Jason Holder. Jimmy Neesham was picked, Chris Morris was picked, other all-rounders were picked. But Holder, who plays two formats, continues to play international cricket for a team, which struggles in a Test and One-Day format. So, you’re always under the pump, always under pressure to deliver,” Gambhir was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

“When you’re in such a situation most of the time in international cricket, obviously you know how to handle that pressure and that is something which we’ve always spoken about, how important it is for overseas players to handle the pressure of the IPL,” added Gambhir.

Gambhir feels that being an international skipper, Holder is useful when it comes to tough situations during the matches, as he can find a solution or a way out to it. “He captains an international side, so we shouldn’t forget that. He plays international cricket continuously,” he continued.

“He plays two out of the three formats. So, he’s done what he was supposed to. Started off well with the new ball, took two important wickets and conceded just 6.25 an over. What more can you expect from your overseas all-rounder?” concluded Gambhir.
