India vs England 2020-21: Remaining T20Is to be played behind closed doors

India and England keep fighting it out in a five-game Twenty20 International series, with matches played in Ahmedabad. The series is currently locked 1-1, as it is sure to get exciting. However, it would all be settled behind closed doors, with fans catching all the action on television.

As the series is locked at 1-1, India and England would begin their rivalry afresh in the ongoing five-game Twenty20 International series. All the matches are being played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The games were held with a 50% capacity crowd, which equals 55,000 spectators. However, the remaining three matches would be played without fans behind closed doors.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Gujarat Cricket Association have collectively taken the decision, keeping in mind the rising COVID cases in the city. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has ordered to impose some strict measures, as the number of cases rose to 530 by 11 AM on Monday.

"Due to rise in number of Corona cases, we at GCA have decided in consultation with BCCI, the matches will be played closed doors and not allow the spectators in the ground during T20 internationals to be played between India and England at Ahmedabad. We will form the policy for refund of money to the spectators, who have already purchased the tickets for these three T20s. Those who have received complimentary tickets are requested not to visit the stadium," said GCA vice-president Dhanraj Nathwani in a release.

"The decision was arrived at following detailed discussions with the state and local health authorities. The BCCI will continue to comply with all the regulations put in place to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus and will always put the health and safety of its fans and stakeholders at the top," added BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

The upcoming three-match One-Day International series, set to be played in Pune, would be played behind closed doors, following the Maharashtra government's instruction. The city has seen a significant spike in the cases in the past few weeks.
