Coronavirus in India: Cricketers who have donated to PM CARES Fund, CM relief funds

Bengaluru: As India continues its fight against the deadly novel coronavirus (COVID-19), people are donating generously to ‘Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’ (PM CARES Fund) and also to various states’ chief ministers’ relief funds. Here, we take a look at the BCCI, cricketers, state cricket associations who have donated/helped so far to combat coronavirus. We will keep updating this list as and when more cricketers come forward to help.

BCCI has donated Rs 51 crore to PM-CARES Fund. "The BCCI will contribute to Hon’ble Prime Minister’s initiative which is a dedicated national fund (PM-CARES Fund) with the primary objective of dealing with emergency or distress situations," BCCI said.

India captain Virat Kohli and his actress wife Anushka Sharma have donated to PM-CARES Fund and CM's relief fund. "Anushka and I are pledging our support towards PM-CARES Fund & the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (Maharashtra). India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Suresh Raina donated a total of Rs 52 lakh to fight coronavirus. He contributed Rs 31 lakh to PM-CARES Fund and Rs 21 lakh to Uttar Pradesh chief minister's relief fund. PM Modi lauded Raina and said, "it's a brilliant fifty".

India opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan said he has contributed to Prime Minister's National Relief Fund and urged others to contribute. He did not mention how much he had contributed to the relief fund.

Sunil Gavaskar donated Rs 59 lakh (Rs 35 lakh to PM CARES Fund and Rs 24 lakh to Maharashtra chief minister’s relief fund). This was tweeted by former Mumbai captain Amol Muzumdar on April 7. Gavaskar's son Rohan said why he donated Rs 59 lakh. "This was done last week. (Rs) 35 because he scored 35 hundreds for India and (Rs) 24 because he scored 24 for Mumbai.
