Coronavirus in India: Cricketers who have donated to PM CARES Fund, CM relief funds

Bengaluru: As India continues its fight against the deadly novel coronavirus (COVID-19), people are donating generously to ‘Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’ (PM CARES Fund) and also to various states’ chief ministers’ relief funds. Here, we take a look at the BCCI, cricketers, state cricket associations who have donated/helped so far to combat coronavirus. We will keep updating this list as and when more cricketers come forward to help.

BCCI has donated Rs 51 crore to PM-CARES Fund. "The BCCI will contribute to Hon’ble Prime Minister’s initiative which is a dedicated national fund (PM-CARES Fund) with the primary objective of dealing with emergency or distress situations," BCCI said.
India captain Virat Kohli and his actress wife Anushka Sharma have donated to PM-CARES Fund and CM's relief fund. "Anushka and I are pledging our support towards PM-CARES Fund & the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (Maharashtra). Our hearts are breaking looking at the suffering of so many & we hope our contribution, in some way, helps easing the pain of our fellow citizens #IndiaFightsCorona," Kohli tweeted on Monday (March 30).

Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has donated Rs 50 lakh (Rs 25 lakh to PM's relief fund and Rs 25 lakh to Maharashtra CM's relief fund)
India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Suresh Raina donated a total of Rs 52 lakh to fight coronavirus. He contributed Rs 31 lakh to PM-CARES Fund and Rs 21 lakh to Uttar Pradesh chief minister's relief fund. PM Modi lauded Raina and said, "it's a brilliant fifty".
India opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan said he has contributed to Prime Minister's National Relief Fund and urged others to contribute. He did not mention how much he had contributed to the relief fund.
Former India batsman Gautam Gambhir, who is now a BJP MP, has contributed Rs 1 crore from his MPLAD Fund and also donated his one month's salary. On April 2, he said he will donate his two years' salary to PM CARES Fund.
India Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane pledged Rs 10 lakh to CM relief fund in Maharashtra.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly donated rice worth Rs 50 lakh in West Bengal.
Brothers Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan donated 4,000 face masks in Vadodara.
Former India all-rounder Laxmi Ratan Shukla, who is Bengal sports minister, donated his three month's MLA salary and also his BCCI pension for the same period.
India woman cricketer Richa Ghosh donated Rs 1 lakh to Bengal chief minister's relief fund.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has donated Rs 1 crore (Rs 50 lakh to PM-CARES Fund and Rs 50 lakh to Karnataka CM relief fund).
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has donated Rs 50 lakh to Maharashtra CM relief fund.
Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) has donated Rs 42 lakh (Rs 21 lakh to PM's relief fund and Rs 21 lakh to Gujarat CM's relief fund). Saurashtra, led by Jaydev Unadkat, won this season's Ranji Trophy title.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has donated Rs 25 lakh to West Bengal CM's relief fund. Also, CAB president Avishek Dalmiya donated Rs 5 lakh.
Former India paceman Atul Wassan donated Rs 5 lakh. “Time for people to push their short hands into their deep pockets .. #COVID19. pledging ₹5 lakh herewith to do my bit . Please do your bit too. Jai Hind!#StayHomeIndia @narendramodi @PMOIndia (sic),” Wassan tweeted.
India woman cricketer Poonam Yadav donated Rs 1 lakh each to PM CARES Fund and Uttar Pradesh CM's relief fund. "I have given my support to the PM-Cares fund and the UP CM relief fund. This is the only thing we can do in this time of crisis. I hope everyone contributes and we beat the pandemic soon," she said.
India woman cricketer Smriti Mandhana too has donated to PM CARES Fund. "Together we can and we will win this battle against #Covid19. Have contributed towards the PM cares fund. Humble request to all the people out there to contribute and help our nation @narendramodi @PMOIndia (sic)," Smriti tweeted.
India woman cricketer Nuzhat Parween has contributed to PM CARES Fund. She did not disclose the amount.
India women's team all-rounder Deepti Sharma has donated Rs 1.5 lakh (Rs 50,000 each to PM CARES Fund, Uttar Pradesh CM's relief fund, West Bengal CM's relief fund).
India limited-overs team vice-captain Rohit Sharma on Tuesday (March 31) donated Rs 80 lakh. He has contributed Rs 45 lakh to PM CARES Fund, Rs 25 lakh to Maharashtra chief minister’s relief fund, Rs 5 lakh each to Zomato Feeding India and welfare of stray dogs.
India women's ODI team captain Mithali Raj has donated Rs 10 lakh. (Rs 5 lakh to PM CARES Fund and Rs 5 lakh to Telangana CM's relief fund).
Former India captain Anil Kumble on Tuesday (March 31) said he has made 'humble contributions' to PM CARES Fund and Karnataka CM relief fund. The spin legend did not disclose the amount.
On April 5, Yuvraj Singh pledged Rs 50 lakh to PM CARES Fund.
On April 7, Cheteshwar Pujara said he and his family have donated to PM CARES Fund and Gujarat chief minister's relief fund. He did not specify the amount. "My family and I have contributed our bit to the PM Cares Fund and Gujarat CM Relief Fund, and hope you will too," Pujara said.
Sunil Gavaskar donated Rs 59 lakh (Rs 35 lakh to PM CARES Fund and Rs 24 lakh to Maharashtra chief minister’s relief fund). This was tweeted by former Mumbai captain Amol Muzumdar on April 7. Gavaskar's son Rohan said why he donated Rs 59 lakh. "This was done last week. (Rs) 35 because he scored 35 hundreds for India and (Rs) 24 because he scored 24 for Mumbai. Prayers for everyone’s good health and that we are all safe and sound," former India batsman Rohan tweeted.
Left-arm paceman Jaydev Unadkat has contributed to PM CARES Fund and chief minister's relief fund (Gujarat). "My family and I are making our contributions towards PM-CARES Fund and Chief Minister's Relief Fund (Gujarat), apart from providing essential things to the local migrants and local organisations," Unadkat said on April 7.
