Have an old Android phone? Google will soon not allow you to sign in

Under the new law, it will show username or password error when one plans to use Google products and services like Gmail, YouTube and maps. 

In a big blow to Android users, tech giant Google will stop signing in on the devices that run Android 2.3.7 or lower from September 27. Under the new law, it will show username or password error when one plans to use Google products and services like Gmail, YouTube and maps. 

In an update, the company said if the device can update to a newer version (3.0+), one should maintain access to Google apps and services on that device. It further stated that as part of their ongoing efforts, the tech giant would no longer allow sign-in android devices that run Android 2.3.7 or lower. The update 2.3.7 was released nearly ten years ago. 

If one cannot update your device to a newer Android version (3.0+), then they should try to log into their account from the device’s web browser.
Apart from this, Google has also issued a warning that the update for Drive may change the link system, which would mean that the links sent for sharing might no longer work. The new Drive security update will be implemented on September 13 this year.

In related news, Google has also revamped its Android backup tool by introducing Backup by Google One. The redesigned tool will be available for all Google users, and they will be able to back up photos, videos, and MMS messages, SMS text messages, device settings, call history, and contacts.
