Facebook has relaunched the Instagram Lite app with testing currently underway in India on the revamped version. The Lite version is aimed at phones with low memory and those with low internet access.

The Instagram Lite app weighs less than 2MB and delivers a "fast, reliable, and responsive" experience

The new Instagram Lite comes without features like Reels, Shopping, and IGTV. The application will be available in several Indian languages like Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu.

Deliversing his keynote address at the Facebook Fuel for India event, Instagram VP-Product Vishal Shah said: IG Lite was built to provide access to high-quality Instagram experience to our users in India, irrespective of the device, platform, and the network that they are on."

"With the test of Instagram Lite, and the next edition of Born on Instagram, we are aiming to democratize expression and creativity for a greater number of people in India. We are also hoping to gain valuable insights before a global rollout of Instagram Lite," he added.

Instagram Lite has been available for download on the Google Play Store since December 9 and has already clocked over 5 million downloads
