Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee’s physical condition marginally improved

Synopsis

Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who is in hospital after testing positive for coronavirus, remained "critical" on Tuesday (October 13) though his health condition improved a little in the afternoon prompting doctors to put on hold invasive ventilation. The veteran actor has been breathing normally since Tuesday (October 13) night. Doctors said that the actor slept peacefully at night. His physical condition was stable.

Kolkata: Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee’s health condition improved a little on Tuesday (October 13) afternoon, allowing the team of 15 doctors that is treating him, to put on hold ‘invasive ventilation'.

However, the sodium level in the body of the veteran actor is still a concern. 

Doctors said, “Soumitra Chatterjee is still in a confusional state which is progressive in nature with COVID-related encephalopathy and metabolic encephalopathy (brain disease).”

The veteran actor had to undergo BiPap ventilation two days ago. However, he has been breathing normally since Tuesday (October 13) night. Doctors said that the actor slept peacefully at night. His physical condition was stable.

Soumitra Chatterjee is currently being given oxygen at the rate of 10 liters per minute with the help of a non-breathing mask. Other important parameters, including heart rate and blood pressure, are also normal.

In addition, there are indications that other infections in the body, except for COVID, have gradually subsided. Medicines are also working in the case of urinary tract infections. The veteran actor is responding to treatment.

However, doctors are still thinking about the level of sodium in the body of the veteran actor. Although potassium and magnesium levels have gradually returned to normal, sodium levels are still quite high.

Soumitra Chatterjee will undergo several medical tests on Wednesday (October 14). 

After evaluating the reports, doctors will decide on the next steps of treatment.
