Veteran Malayalam actor Munshi Venu, popular for his role of as the panchayath member in Asianet News' show 'Munshi', passed away at a private hospital in Chalakudy near Thrissur on Thursday morning. He was 63.

 

The actor was suffering from kidney ailments and was undergoing treatment for the same.

 

Venu's turn as the toothless, nosy panchayath member in Munshi made him popular and fetched him several roles in films and other serials. Known for his comic timing and peculiar voice, Venu has acted in more than 50 Malayalam films, and was best known for his cameos in 'Chotta Mumbai', 'Salt 'n' Pepper', 'Immanuel' and 'Daddy Cool'.

 

A Thiruvananthapuram native, Venu was unmarried, didn't own a house and was staying at a small private lodge in Chalakudy for the past 10 years. According to reports, the actor didn't make much financial gains from his acting career and had struggled for hospital expenses.

Chotta Mumbai

Venu's dialogue "Mone Shakeela vanno? (Has Shakeela arrived?)" from Mohanlal starrer Chotta Mumbai is arguably one of the most popular comedy dialogues in Mollywood history, and several variations of it have become memes ever since.

 

Salt 'n' Pepper 

Venu's performance as the driving school master in Aashiq Abu's Salt 'n' Pepper was also popular among Mollywood film buffs.
