Thaniyavarthanam (1987)
The movie portrayed the life of Balan Mash - who was forced to plough the depths of insanity by his family and a ruthless society. (Balan Mash) Mammootty's performance as a school teacher was outstanding, especially in the climax. Movie reviewers and critics praised him for his role. 

 

 

Vidheyan (1994)
Mammootty's role as Bhaskara Patelar was considered to be one of the best acting performances in Mollywood. Mammootty scored high with his extraordinary portrayal of Patelar, a cruel landlord who kills his wife and rapes his slaves.

 

 

Bhoothakkannadi (1997)
Mammootty played Vidyadharan, a clocksmith who is forced to face hard realities of life thanks to his deteriorating mind and incompetence. Surely one of the best performances by the actor.

 

 

Thalapathy (1991)
Mammootty played Devraj, a golden-hearted Don. The movie was a interpretation of the epic Mahabharata character Duryodhana. Directed by Mani Ratnam, Mammootty managed to overshadow his co-star, Rajinikanth, thanks to his extraordinary screen presence.

 

 

Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar (2000)
Mammootty played Dr BR Ambedkar, the father of the Indian Constitution, in the movie. He earned National recognition and won his third National Award trophy for his performance in the film.

 

 

Pranchiyettan And The Saint (2010)
One of the best performances by the Megastar in the past decade, Mammootty played Cherammal Francis, and he once again showcased his his brilliant language skills, with his portrayal of a Thrissur-based businessman.
