She is one of few actresses who hardly ever shows up at film promotions, events and parties. But, onscreen, she can light up the big screen with her presence and persona.
And as she confidently handles multiple cinematic genres, she has shown us how an actress can carry films entirely on her shoulders.
Thanks to her blockbusters, she is now the highest paid actress in South Indian cinema. Last year, she was part of successful movies like Thani Oruvan, Maya and Naanum Rowdydhaan. Surely, this year we will be seen more of Nayanthara as a lead showing her brilliant acting skills.
In an interview with a daily, she spoke about women-centric films in the southern film industries, opining that the audience was open for it.
"Opportunities are still limited, but I am glad that our industry is opening up to women-centric films. Filmmakers are willing to take a chance. I think our South film industries are also evolving and getting where Bollywood has already reached with movies like Dirty Picture, Kahani, Queen." she said.
She said, "As a woman, I am very proud and happy to receive this recognition of 'Lady Superstar', which I don't know if I deserve or not." "But I have worked hard to get here, and it's good to get that acceptance in a male-dominated industry," she adds.
Recently, her upcoming movie Kolayuthir Kaalam launched its first poster. The black and white poster shows an angry Nayanthara with a bloodied and soiled hand covering her mouth.
According to press releases, filmmaker Chakri Toleti said that the movie is a thriller. Kolayuthir Kaalam is based on English Indie hit Hush. It is the story of a deaf and mute author who is struggling to complete the climax of her latest novel when she falls prey to a psycho killer.
