The romantic thriller features Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead roles, and has music composed by AR Rahman and cinematography by Ravi Varman.
'Kaatru Veliyidai' has released on 300-plus screens in Tamil Nadu and over 50 screens in Kerala and is expected to have a big opening.
The film is also Mani Rantnam's first directorial venture since 2015's 'OK Kanmani', starring Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen, which went on to become a blockbuster.
'Kaatru Veliyidai' also marks 25th year of collaboration between Mani Ratnam and Rahman.
