The Telugu film industry is all set to begin 2017 with an impressive lineup of big-ticket releases hitting theatres this week. First up on this list is Gautamiputra Satakarni, whose epic trailer made fans sit up and take note of the film. The historical drama has been given tax exemption by the government of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

In an interview, with a daily the veteran actor shared that his father, legendary actor and former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh NT Rama Rao, was supposed to play the Satvahana king in his time. Sadly, the movie could never take off due to several political reasons. Now, Balayya will be seen playing the part originally meant for his father, and this will be his way of paying tribute to his late father.

Storyline
The epic historical movie builds on the life of 2nd century AD ruler Gautamiputra Satakarni of Satavahana empire, at present, we name it as Deccan region. The story throws light on the history of Telugu people.

Krish, who directed the movie, is known as one of the most promising and innovative filmmakers in Telugu cinema. His war drama Kanche won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu in 2015. So we all can expect the director to work his magic once again with Gautamiputra Satakarni.
