Sri Lanka's Matheesha Pathirana bowled a 175 kph ball at India's Yashasvi Jaiswal during the ICC Under-19 World Cup in Bloemfontein

Bloemfontein (South Africa): In the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa, Sri Lanka have a fast bowler who has a bowling action similar to Lasith Malinga. However, that is not the latest news. The big news coming from the Rainbow Nation is that he delivered a ball at 175 kilometres per hour.

During the India-Sri Lanka match in Bloemfontein, Matheesha Pathirana bowled a “world record delivery”, shattering the previous mark held by Pakistani paceman Shoaib Akhtar.

Pathirana bowled a wayward delivery, which was called wide, to Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal. The speed gun recorded the speed of the ball as 175 kmph. The fastest ball ever bowled is 161.3 kmph.

Twitter users were excited to see this from a young fast bowler from Sri Lanka. However, it could be an error from the speed gun. Even some fans asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) about the speed, which was flashed on TV screens.

ICC is yet to respond to that. But, many fans did agree that it was an error. In the match, India won by 90 runs to launch their title defence. India have won the Under-19 World Cup trophy four times.
