Meta: India and Pakistan are known to be the fiercest rivals in all aspects, including sports. The cricketing ties between the two nations have been brought to a halt for almost nine years, owing to the cross-border and political tensions between them.

When it comes to India and Pakistan, it is considered one of the world's fiercest rivalry in all aspects. The sporting rivalry, too, happens to be really intense between the two, especially in cricket.

Since 2012, the cricketing ties between the two countries have been brought to a complete halt, barring the ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup. Also, the Pakistani players have not been allowed to take part in the same since 2009.

Critics and experts have repeatedly expressed their opinion on cricketing ties' resumption, as it would bridge the gap between the two countries, currently undergoing severe cross-border and political tensions. Meanwhile, former Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi has once again batted for the resumption of the same between the two countries, citing the very reason.

"Cricket between Pakistan and India is very important. Sports should be kept away from politics. Relations between the two countries can improve because of cricket," Afridi was quoted as saying to Cricket Pakistan.

"I have said this before as well; Indian cricketers enjoy coming to Pakistan. You can improve relationships through sports, but if you don't want to improve them, then they will remain the same way," added Afridi.

Recently, a Pakistan daily quoted a Pakistan Cricket Board official, claiming that the board has been asked to be ready for a series against India. However, the same has been turned down by an official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

Also, PCB chairman Ehsan Mani confirmed that there had been no discussions on the same. The two countries last played during the 2019 ICC World Cup in England, which India had won.
