On Friday, India seemed to have gained control back in the third Test against England at Headingly in Leeds. At the end of Day 3’s play, India had narrowed down England’s lead by 139 runs, thanks to prolific twin innings from Rohit Sharma (59) and Cheteshwar Pujara (91*).
Meanwhile, something weird, yet familiar, happened on Friday at Headingley. Immediately following Rohit’s dismissal, pitch invader Jarvo walked in wearing Indian Test gear, suited with a helmet and a bat, as he walked in and prepared to bat.
He took his stance and seemingly looked to have replaced Virat Kohli as the number four batsman. However, he was immediately intervened by the security officials and taken off the ground as the crowd cheered and roared for him.
It was not the first time that Jarvo invaded the pitch. He did the same during the second Test at Lord’s, as he had walked onto the ground while India was fielding and started acting as the captain while he tried to set the field before being ejected out of the ground by the security.
Following Jarvo’s act, veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin took to Twitter to applaud India and Jarvo’s action and warned the latter to stop invading the pitch. “Today’s play was as good as it can get with @ImRo45 @cheteshwar1 @imVkohli and Jaarvo showing great intent and grit! Keep going, fellas, and stop doing this, Jaarvo.”
India is currently 215/2, trailing by 139 runs. It would have a challenging task at hand to survive the morning session on Saturday.
