In an exciting move made by Delhi Capitals, it has decided to allow wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant to continue as the side's skipper for the resuming 2021 Indian Premier League, to be played in the United Arab Emirates from Sunday. It happens despite regular captain Shreyas Iyer returning to the side.
Pant was roped in as the skipper earlier this season when Iyer had suffered a partially dislocated shoulder and was ruled out of the tournament. However, with the competition being suspended mid-way and Iyer returning to the side now, the DC management has decided not to fiddle with the captaincy mid-season.
So far, Pant has done a great job leading the side. Presently, it is placed atop the table after eight games, winning six. Meanwhile, head coach Ricky Ponting has warned that the team needs to ante up hereon, as what it has done in the first half barely matters now.

He said that the side's performance so far has been a result of its hard work, but he was unsure if it was the best cricket played by the side. However, he feels it's time to start all over again.
Speaking on Iyer's return, Ponting feels that besides having an infectious attitude, he has had a great training session so far. As per the coach, Iyer is desperate to get back to the field, score runs and win, while the former asserted that the latter is a world-class player and would contribute heavily to the side.
