IPL 2020: RCB postpone training camp due to coronavirus; Mike Hesson to remain in Bengaluru

IPL 2020 has been deferred till April 15 due to coronavirus. Now, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have postponed their training camp


Bengaluru: Indian Premier League (IPL) team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have postponed their training camp which was scheduled to being in Bengaluru on March 21.

The decision to defer the training camp was taken due to coronavirus outbreak. Over 100 positive cases have been reported in India. Across the world, over 180,000 people have been affected by coronavirus (COVID-19).

RCB, on its official Twitter handle, wrote on Monday evening (March 16), “Keeping in mind the health and safety of everyone involved, the RCB Training Camp scheduled to start on the 21st of March has been deferred until further notice. We request everyone to follow the guidelines provided by the Health Ministry and stay safe.”

RCB’s director of cricket operations, Mike Hesson said, “It's an unfortunate situation, but the safety of our fans, players and the support staff is our priority. RCB has taken a conscious call to not bring the full squad together at this stage, but we are in touch with our players individually keeping them well informed and making sure they will be ready when called upon.”

Hesson tweeted, "Stay safe everyone, please make smart heath choices for you and those around you.......To respond to many of your kind well wishes fans I will be staying in Bangalore until we know our next step with @RCBTweets".

In December 2019, RCB bought eight players in auction. Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, Dale Steyn, Isuru Udana, Joshua Philippe, Kane Richardson, Pavan Deshpande and Shahbaz Ahmad were bought by the Virat Kohli-led side.

Last week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) deferred IPL 2020 till April 15. The cash-rich Twenty20 league was to start on March 29.
