India to tour Sri Lanka in July for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is: Sri Lanka Cricket

India is shifting focus to international cricket now that the 2021 Indian Premier League has been indefinitely postponed. India will be travelling to England from June until September, while India is also scheduled for a Sri Lanka tour in July.

India's international calendar for the post-Indian Premier League 2021 phase seems to be taking shape. Although IPL 2021 has been indefinitely postponed, India has begun preparations for its global commitment, starting next month in England with the ICC World Test Championship final and the consequent five-Test series against England, scheduled to run until September.

Meanwhile, India is also set for a limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka in July, for three One-Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals, respectively, reports ESPNCricinfo. According to Sri Lanka Cricket's suggested program to the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the tour would kick-off with the ODIs on July 13, 16, 19, while the T20Is would be followed on July 22, 24, 27, as the venues are yet to be decided.

India is scheduled to leave for Lanka on July 5, while upon arrival, it would serve a mandatory seven-day quarantine. While the first three days would be a rigid quarantine, the remaining fours days would comprise training, but with the movements being restricted within the bubble. Also, the matches are likely to be held behind closed doors, with the visitor returning on July 28.

In the meantime, the series would be interesting as none of the senior players travelling to England for the longer format commitment would feature in Lanka. Consequently, the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and many more are to miss out. Meanwhile, players like Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Prithvi Shaw, Deepak Chahar, Rahul Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy and a few others are likely to be considered for the island tour.

It would be India's first tour of Lanka since the 2018 Nidahas Trophy, won by India after beating Bangladesh in a thrilling final. Also, this would be India's first bilateral tour of the island nation since 2017, when India had whitewashed the host in all three formats.
