IPL 2020 is the last thing that Rohit Sharma is thinking at the moment. He said we should think about India first and then the cash-rich Twenty20 league as the country is under a 21-day lockdown due to coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

Bengaluru: India batsman and Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma said it was important to first think about the country and IPL 2020 later amid the 21-day lockdown due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has deferred the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) till April 15. However, in the current situation, it looks unlikely that the cash-rich league will start anytime soon.

Most of the sports events across the globe have either been cancelled or postponed due to coronavirus. All cricket matches in India have been suspended.

Recently, IPL franchises and BCCI officials were to have a conference call but had to be cancelled. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said he did not have any new update on IPL 2020.

MI skipper had an Instagram chat with India teammate Yuzvendra Chahal and spoke about IPL. Rohit said the situation needs to get better first and then only we should talk about IPL.

“We should first think about the country. The situation needs to get better first then we can talk about the IPL. Let life get back to normal first,” Rohit said.

Originally, IPL 2020 was to start at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on March 29 with defending champions MI facing Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Talking about the current lockdown, Rohit said, "I haven't seen Bombay (Mumbai) like this before. As cricketers, we don't get time with family. So much of tours and cricket is there. This is a time to spend with them and loads of it."
