India fast bowler Mohammed Shami helped people on a National Highway in Uttar Pradesh as he distributed food and masks amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis. Watch the video here


Bengaluru: As India continues to battle the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, fast bowler Mohammed Shami was seen helping people with food packets and masks in Uttar Pradesh.

The India paceman was seen distributing food packets and masks on National Highway No. 24 in Uttar Pradesh. The video of Shami helping people was shared by the official Instagram handle of the Indian cricket team on Tuesday (June 2). The 29-year-old has also set up food distribution centres near his home in Sahaspur, Uttar Pradesh.

“As #IndiaFightsCorona, @mdshami.11 comes forward to help people trying to reach home by distributing food packets & masks on National Highway No. 24 in Uttar Pradesh. He has also set up food distribution centres near his house in Sahaspur. We are in this together,” it wrote along with the video.

Netizens appreciated Shami’s efforts during these difficult times. “Sensational and pure hearted shami (sic),” a user on Instagram wrote.

While several Indian cricketers have come forward to help the needy, Shami has gone one step further to be on the frontline to connect with people. This act of his has been winning hearts on the internet.

Recently, Mumbai batsman Sarfaraz Khan too was seen distributing food packets to migrant labourers who were returning home in Uttar Pradesh. Sarfaraz became a hit among fans when he played the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Now, he is with Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).
