Coronavirus: Irfan Pathan gets hate messages on Twitter during PM Modi’s ‘Diya Jalao’ campaign

Irfan Pathan was targeted by Twitter trolls during PM Narendra Modi's 'Diay Jalao' campaign on Sunday as India continues to fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19)


Bengaluru: Former India all-rounder hit back at Twitter trolls after he was targeted during the 'Diya Jalao' campaign for nine minutes at 9 pm in fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on Sunday (April 5).

Irfan was subjected to hate messages from Twitter users after he criticised people for bursting crackers after lighting diyas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had urged all Indians to switch off lights and light lamps on Sunday. The activity got massive response and Irfan too participated in it.

On Twitter, Irfan said it was all good untill people started to burst crackers. Not only Irfan there were many Twitter users who slammed those using firecrackers.

““It was so good untill ppl started bursting crackers #IndiaVsCorona (sic),” Irfan wrote on his Twitter page.

For this, he received hate messages. He shared screenshots of the same and tagged Twitter India asking them to send “fire trucks”. He wrote, “We need fire trucks can u help? @TwitterIndia (sic).”

Currently, India is under a 21-day lockdown. Irfan and his brother Yusuf Pathan have come forward to help the needy. They provided face masks in Vadodara and later distributed ration.

Irfan and Yusuf have been urging people to stay at home and stay safe in nation’s fight against the virus.
