Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21: BCCI warns CA of Brisbane Test pull-out due to hard quarantine

India is taking on Australia in a four-Test series to defend the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The final Test is scheduled to be held in Brisbane. However, the city is contemplating hard quarantine for the ones who arrive from Sydney, following a series of COVID outbreaks in the latter.

India and Australia are currently engaged in a four-Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is being defended by the former. As of now, the series is locked 1-1, while the third Test is currently being played in Sydney.

The city was in contention to miss out on the ongoing Test following a series of COVID outbreaks in the city. Although it managed to retain the right, it is the fourth Test in Brisbane which is under the cloud.

As of now, the state of Queensland has sealed its border with New South Wales. Furthermore, there are reports that in case the players are to arrive in Brisbane, they might have to undergo a strict 15-day quarantine.

Meanwhile, according to a fresh report by ESPNCrcinfo, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dropped a mail to Cricket Australia (CA), stating that the Indians already had spent a two-week quarantine following their arrival in Australia, in November, as a fresh quarantine made no sense. Also, with the teams confined to strict bio-bubble norms, another round of quarantine would be too much of a mental toll for the players.

While BCCI is mulling a pullout of the Brisbane Test, CA might contemplate hosting the fourth Test in Sydney as well. As of now, the report adds that CA has already booked the hotels in both Sydney and Brisbane between January 15-19.

Furthermore, CA is helpless in this situation, as the restrictions put in place, in Brisbane, is by the Queensland government. "It is too taxing for the boys, asking them to travel to Brisbane and be in the jail for another five days," a BCCI official was quoted as saying.
