46,759 new cases in India in the last 24 hours; Kerala alone accounts for 32,801 cases

India has registered 46,759 new cases of Coronavirus in the last 24 hours. 

According to Union Health Ministry data, Kerala alone accounts for 32,801 new positive cases.

With this, the Covid-19 active case tally in the country rose to 3,59,775. In the last 24 hours, active cases have increased by 14,876.

The health minister noted that the country's active caseload constituted 1.10% of the total cases.

The data further suggested that the daily positivity rate was at 2.66 per cent or less than 3 per cent for 33 consecutive days.

Kerala also reported the most number of deaths due to Covid-19. Kerala reported 179 deaths in the last 24 hours, followed by Maharashtra (170). 

This is the third consecutive day that Kerala has reported over 30,000 new cases. The surge in cases is being attributed to the recently-concluded Onam festivities in the state.

The surge in Covid cases comes a day after India achieved a landmark milestone with the highest-ever single-day vaccination coverage of over 1 crore doses.

Over 31,374 people recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery count to 3,18,52,802. The recovery rate currently stands at 97.56 per cent.
