Following the continuous dumping of garbage in the C.Ramapuram village, near Tirupati, residents, including the local MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, posed resistance. As minor tension prevailed in the area, police arrested 30 protesters along with Reddy.
The protest erupted after municipal authorities failed to meet their promises of shifting the dumping yard, as earlier demanded by the people of the village. Surprisingly, the authorities imposed section 144 on the village and continued dumping garbage in the area.
The officials removed the blockades, set up by the villagers preventing the movement of the vehicles into C.Ramapuram. Apart from arresting 30 protesters, Chandragiri legislator Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy was arrested even before he arrived at the venue and was taken to B.N. Kandriga police station near Srikalahasthi.
The entire ruckus began when the officials conducted a survey for examining the feasibility of setting up a waste-to-energy plant at the dumping yard at C.Ramapuram. Though there were a series of meetings conducted by the municipal authorities with the local people, political leaders and representatives from various sections of society, the issue still remained unsolved.
In the first meeting, the representatives from the village even agreed on the waste-to-energy plant; however, the plan did not see any progress.
