Satyarthi’s rally for ‘Safe Childhood’ reaches Kurnool but ignores issues faced by children in Rayalaseema

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu participated in the ‘Safe Childhood-Safe India’ rally held in Kurnool on Tuesday organised by Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi.

The people and children organisations expected the rally to discuss the problems faced by children in Rayalaseema, especially Kurnool.However, there were no discussions on child protection report of UNESCO related to the malnutrition problem and underdevelopment of children in Rayalaseema.

According to the report, 40 percent of children from Rayalaseema and 44 percent in Kurnool suffer from imbalanced development. The reasons according to the report are poverty, illiteracy and child marriages, and the major one is safe drinking water.

In a land where three rivers – Tungabhadra, Kundu and Krishna – flow with more than 1100 TMCs worth of water flowing through it, that land suffers from drinking and irrigation water. The government failed to provide proper water facility to the Rayalaseema area in spite of these rivers. The result is that children are underdeveloped and malnourished.

In a place where maximum children rights are violated with no proper food and water and malnutrition, in such a place the children’s rally was held but sadly the problems of children weren’t highlighted. Though Kurnool became the stage for children’s rights, it was not successful in talking about its children’s problems.
