Father sells daughter for alcohol, girl rescued by Telangana police

Synopsis

A 14-year-old daughter of an alcoholic dhobi suffered a horrible fate, thanks to liquor The dhobi sold her off to a woman for a sum of Rs 10,000, which he reportedly wanted to spend on drinks.  The woman who bought the girl sold her to three other people, who had paid Rs 5,000.

A 14-year old girl was rescued by the Telangana state police from a village in Krishna district, days after she was sold off by her father for a sum of Rs 10,000 to a woman who ran a sex racket. When the man did not get the entire sum, he lodged a complaint with the police saying that her daughter was abducted. A month later, police found the girl and the woman hiding in a village in Krishna district. Both the woman and the father have been arrested, along with three others who the girl had been resold to.

The woman, Sudharani, had recently shifted to Miryalaguda from Prakasam district. Butharaju Krishna, a dhobi, helped her find a place to stay. Soon after, he started asking her for money, but she refused, claiming she didn't have any. However, Krishna knew that she supplied girls for clients and asked her to take his daughter in exchange for some money. Sudharani took this opportunity to fulfil her promise of providing a girl to M. Pavan, M. Jawahar and Mohammed Waheed.

She had collected Rs 5,000 from them. From that money, she handed over Rs 3,000 to Krishna and took the girl - promising to pay Rs 7000 later.

The trio then set out to Devarakonda with Sudharani and the girl. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, DSP Ramgopal Rao said, "Halfway there, they purchased some alcohol and offered some to Sudharani. She consumed two bottles of beer and also forced the girl to drink a bottle. She then received a call from Krishna asking for the balance amount. But Sudharani said that she had not received the cash from them. To this, Krishna replied that he was not bothered about her or his daughter; he just wanted the money."

When Sudharani asked the trio for the rest of the money, they said that she had already collected the money from them and was yet to hand over the girl. So, she should not be expecting anything else from them. Outraged, Sudharani got down from the car with the girl and hailed a lorry for help.

She and the girl boarded the lorry posing as mother and daughter. The DSP added, "She said that she and her daughter wanted to make a livelihood in some place away from home and went to Goa in the same vehicle. Two days later, after unloading the vehicle, the driver Shiva brought them to his hometown Jaggaiahpet in Krishna district and gave them shelter in his home saying that they were his distant relatives. After staying there for two weeks, they moved to another nearby village."

Police reached the duo based on a tip-off. Based on Sudharani's confession, police arrested the other three suspects and the girl's father. The girl was sent to a rescue home as she was not willing to stay with her father.
