  • AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s comment has raked up a lot of dissent
  • Earlier he was very vocal about people following a strict family plan and stop having children
  • Now the tables have turned. He sees more children as the only way to combat a present threat

When doctors advise you on family planning, their message is usually loud and clear – stick to two children and make sure you are not putting additional load on the already blooming Indian population.

Till a few days ago even AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu thought the same and in fact, he was quite a staunch advocate of people sticking to strict family planning. But now something in the future has made him take a u-turn. On Monday, the CM proposed a unique solution to reduce the risk of automation. His advice to the people of Andhra Pradesh is – produce more children.

He stated that in the coming years the population would consist of a majority of old people. So, taking back his words, he said that in order to reduce our dependency on robots, people need to have more children. He also said educated people were shying away from having kids since most of them consider it a burden, this needs to change.

Not to mention, his advocacy of neglecting family planning  attracted sharp criticism from the opposition parties who inquired where would the resources for these children come from.

It seems the CM was talking about how to combat automation which is currently a huge threat to jobs in the IT field. Citing this as a demographic crisis that needs to be paid attention, he was advocating that people have more children.
