Twitter suffers global breakdown for 2 hours

Reaching out to its millions of subscribers, Twitter Support said: "Twitter has been down for many of you and we are working to get it back up and running for everyone. We had some trouble with our internal systems and don’t have any evidence of a security breach or hack."

Twitter suffered a massive outage as the social networking site went down for nearly 2 hours.

According to reports, the breakdown came just a day after Twitter took the unprecedented step of limiting the spread of a controversial New York Post article critical of the US presidential candidate Joe Biden, sparking outrage among conservatives and a debate about how social media platforms should tackle misinformation in the lead-up to the US election.

The platform last experienced an hour-long outage in July 2019. 

The technical breakdown comes even as Twitter is fighting off privacy concerns worldwide. 

Few months ago, in July, 130 accounts of prominent personalties like former US president Barack Obama, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Tesla chief Elon Musk were hacked by intruders who released tweets duping people into sending $100,000 in Bitcoin, supposedly in exchange for double the amount sent.
