Oxford COVID vaccine trials show reliable effect on elderly

Synopsis

The COVID-19 vaccine being developed by the Oxford University and AstraZeneca Plc has showed a reliable effect on the elderly people during the trials.

The novel coronavirus has claimed over a million lives worldwide.

Globally, efforts are on to find a vaccine to counter the virus.

In this regard, Oxford university's vaccine has been found to infuse protective antibodies and T-cells in older age groups.

Immunogenicity blood tests have shown that the vaccine generated 'robust immune responses' in the age group of 18-55-years.

Though, it cannot be predicted if the vaccine will be effective and will prove safer for older people.

AZD1222 or ChAdOx1 nCoV-19, the vaccine which is being developed by the Oxford University and licensed by the AstraZeneca in April, is ready for the U.S. trials after it got the approval from the US regulators.
