Indian American Dr Vivek Murthy is one of the few expected to co-chair the coronavirus task force which Joe Biden will be forming. It is expected to make announcements on Monday of the names of advisers who will be given the job to bring the pandemic under control.

Washington: With Joe Biden making it to the most powerful job in the world, it has been of immense pride for the people in Karnataka because of Vivek Murthy, who is expected to occupy an important post in the new administration.

President-elect of the United States Joe Biden has said that his priority would be to bring the COVID-19 pandemic in the country under control.

As a first step, he is expected to make announcements on Monday of the names of advisers who will be given the job to bring the pandemic under control.

Indian American physician Vivek Murthy is one of the few expected to co-chair the coronavirus task force which Biden will be forming.

For the uninitiated, the 43-year-old is originally from Hallegere village in Maddur Taluk of Mandya district in Karnataka.

Vivek Murthy was born in London and brought up in the US. Vivek did a BA from Harvard University, an MBA from Yale School of Management, and an MD from Yale School of Medicine.

Murthy was appointed America’s 19th surgeon general by then-president Barack Obama in 2014. Born in the UK, he was the youngest ever to hold the office at the age of 37.
