In the latest development in North Korea, the prices of essential commodities have shot up way beyond expectations. As per reports some items like bananas cost over Rs 3000/kg and commodities like a coffee pack costs Rs 7,381.
In a stressful situation in North Korea due to the massive food shortage crisis, prices of essential commodities like bananas, coffee packs, tea packs and a host of other items have gone over the roof.
It is said that, due to low agricultural output last year and the current pandemic situation and global slow down in the economy, North Korea is facing such a stressful situation. According to reports, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation has reportedly claimed that North Korea's shortage can be estimated at 8,60,000 tonnes of food.
"The people's food situation is now getting tense as the agricultural sector failed to fulfil its grain production plan due to the damage caused by the typhoon last year," a report quoted supreme leader Kim Jong-un as saying.
As per Korean Central News Agency report from the country's capital Pyongyang, bananas are priced $45 or Rs 3,335/kg and a packet of black tea priced $70 or Rs 5,190 and a packet of coffee is being sold at $100 or Rs 7,414.
It is reported that the supreme leader has given standing instructions to other leaders from his party at a meeting to ensure the food shortage crisis is resolved at the earliest.
