FIA Celebrates India’s 80th Independence Day With ‘Bharat Beyond Borders 2.0’ Gala In New York

The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and New England brought its India Day weekend celebrations to a grand close with the ‘Bharat Beyond Borders 2.0’ Gala at Cipriani Wall Street on August 16. The high-profile gathering brought together diplomats, elected officials, community leaders, business representatives, sponsors and celebrities for an evening celebrating India’s 80th Independence Day and the 250th anniversary of the United States. Through music, cultural performances, celebrity appearances and official messages, the event showcased the strong cultural connections between the Indian-American community and the two countries.
Prominent Guests Attend FIA Independence Day Gala
The programme opened with remarks from the master of ceremonies, followed by acknowledgements of the event’s founding sponsors. The Consulate General of India, Bansal Foundation and State Bank of India were among those recognised for their support.
The opening ceremony featured an instrumental presentation of Raga Kirwani by the Heritage Arts Academy. This was followed by the Indian and US national anthems and an instrumental musical medley, setting the tone for the evening's celebrations.
Leaders Extend Greetings To The Community
The gala also featured recorded messages from several political and public figures. New York Governor Kathy Hochul, the Consul General and Deputy Consul General of India, Member of Parliament Harsh Vardhan, NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini extended their greetings on the occasion.
FIA Chairman Ankur Vaidya and FIA President Sreekanth Akkapalli addressed the gathering, while Gaurav Vashist, Consul General of Israel, and representatives from Hard Rock also shared remarks.
Music, Dance And Entertainment Take Centre Stage
A wide range of performances added colour to the gala, with the programme bringing together Indian cultural traditions and international influences. The evening featured Broadway-style showcases, along with Priti Patel’s ‘Gokul Dham Unplugged’ and a performance by a youth musical ensemble.
A mariachi band's performance added another dimension to the evening, while a best-dressed contest offered guests an additional element of entertainment.
Several well-known personalities also attended the celebration. Pooja Hegde took part in a fireside conversation, while Adivi Sesh, Avinash Tiwary and members of the cast of ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ were among the featured guests. FIA representatives felicitated the participating artists and other distinguished attendees.
New York City Mayor’s Office Presents Proclamation
The event concluded with Dilip Chauhan from the New York City Mayor's Office presenting an official proclamation. The closing programme included addresses by Rohit Korat and Manan, followed by a vote of thanks from Srishti Kaul Narula.
