China kindergarten blast: At least 7 killed, 66 injured in Jiangsu

In a deadly blast inside a kindergarten in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu, at least seven people have been reported killed.

Local media reports said that the explosion took place at around 4.50pm and a total of 66 people were injured. The condition of nine people is said to be serious. There are no reports yet on the cause of the blast.

Photos and videos of the incident posted online show a dozen people, including young children, outside the kindergarten gate. The distressing images show many lying unconscious and some covered in blood.

“About 5pm, we heard a blast and thought it might have been a gas explosion at a nearby food vendor,” a local shop owner was quoted as saying by online news portal Sohu. “Many people could be dead,” the witness said.
