According to initial reports, the blast took place in a van near Confucius Institute in Karachi University. Following the blast, rescue and security agencies reached the location and cordoned off the areas, initiating rescue operations.
An explosion has been reported near Karachi University, reported DawnNewsTV. Television images showed a white vehicle engulfed in flames, with plumes of smoke rising from its charred remnants. A bomb within the university is said to have killed several persons. According to preliminary reports, four persons were killed in the explosion, including two Chinese language professors.
The explosion happened at 1:52 p.m. in a vehicle near Karachi University's Confucius Institute, which teaches Chinese. Following the explosion, rescue and security authorities hurried to the scene and roped off the affected regions, starting rescue efforts.
Huang Guiping, the director of the Confucius Institute, Ding Mupeng, Chen Sai, and their Pakistani driver Khalid have been identified as the murdered Chinese nationals.
According to police reports, there were seven to eight persons in the vehicle; however, the actual number of fatalities has yet to be confirmed. Initially, the incident was thought to have been caused by a gas cylinder. However, officials later stated that the explosion may have been the result of a suicide strike. According to sources, the victims were returning from the Institute of Business Administration to the Confucius Institute.
Upon learning about the event, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah asked the East deputy commissioner (DC) and SP East to rush to the scene. The Sindh Chief Minister was asked to transfer the injured to the Dow University Hospital. He asked personnel to guarantee that no injuries occurred at any of the facilities. The chief minister has also requested a full report on the bombing from Karachi's commissioner.
