Bengaluru: The decision to name the Yelahanka flyover after Veer Savarkar in Bengaluru created a controversy as the opposition stated that it is an insult to freedom fighters of Karnataka. The Congress and JD(S) in Karnataka have opposed the move to name a flyover in the city after freedom fighter and Hindutva ideology Veer Savarkar, and termed it an insult to freedom fighters of the state. The decision to postpone the naming ceremony has not gone down well with few supporters of Veer Savarkar hailing from a right-wing group as they claim that they are unhappy with the development.
The group of supporters tried to erect a pole with a board bearing a photo of the national leader - 'Veer Savarkar flyover', however the police intervened and they stopped the act. The supporters and the police were seen arguing at the spot.
