In an interview, HS Doreswamy, one of the few surviving freedom fighters and centenarian recalled his meetings with Gandhi Ji and the inspiration behind him joining the freedom struggle.
The freedom fighter said he was surprised to see letters reach Mahatma Gandhi, despite him not being present in a particular address for long.
Doreswamy was jailed for 14 months for destroying government letters by setting post boxes of fire and supplying explosives to freedom fighters in Tumakuru in the 1940s.
