Xiaomi Mi 5 debuts open sale this week

Synopsis

Xiaomi's Mi 5 will go up on open sale on May 4 as India's first smartphone to feature the latest Qualcomm Kyro processor.

The flagship phone will be making its third appearance, following two such flash sales in April. Unlike in the past, there is no registration required for purchasing the smartphone this time around.

Xiaomi's official website Mi.com is presently offering the phone exclusively while other e-commerce portals are expected to get it soon, according to the recent DNA India report.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the Mi 5 sports a 5.15in full HD IPS LCD running at 1920x1080 pixels at 428 pixels-per-inch (PPI). A quad-core 1.8GHz Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with an Adreno 530 Graphics Processor Unit (GPU) power the phone with 3GB of onboard RAM.

The phone's internal storage is limited to 32GB without any option for memory expansion. On the camera front, the Mi 5 features a 16-megapixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus, 4-axis Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and dual-LED flash, besides a 4MP front-facing camera.

Among other features, the smartphone includes a fingerprint scanner, a 3D glass back, Corning Gorilla Glass 4 display protection, and support for Dual LTE and NFC.

Equipped with a 3000 mAh battery and Quick Charge 3.0 technology, the Mi 5 runs Android Marshmallow 6.0 with MIUI 7.0 user-interface (UI) skin.

The smartphone will be available in three different colours including Black, Champagne Gold, and White, at ₹24,999
