WhatsApp may soon let you add photos and videos as status

Synopsis

WhatsApp is testing new status feature.  It will let you add photos and videos as status.  The status update will last for 24 hours.

WhatsApp is testing a new status feature in its beta version that allows users to upload photos and videos, reveals WABetaInfo that tracks WhatsApp Beta changelogs.

As the tweets suggest, the new feature will come with privacy Settings. Moreover, it will be made available for iOS users soon. This update will be made available for a period of 24 hours, which reminds us of the Stories that feature on Instagram and Snapchat. This essentially means the photos and videos will disappear from the status after a day.

This also puts forth Facebook's obsession with Snapchat and reminds us of its multiple failed attempts at copying the ephemeral app. It has tried buying as well as acquiring Snapchat on multiple occasions. From Slingshot to well, we've lost the count it has tried building a Snapchat-like app, but failed each time.

It was just recently that WhatsApp rolled out two-step verification for added security. The feature adds a six digit passcode to WhatsApp. You can check out our step-by-step guide to enable it here.
