WhatsApp is testing a new status feature in its beta version that allows users to upload photos and videos, reveals WABetaInfo that tracks WhatsApp Beta changelogs.

This update will be made available for a period of 24 hours, which reminds us of the Stories that feature on Instagram and Snapchat. This essentially means the photos and videos will disappear from the status after a day.
This also puts forth Facebook's obsession with Snapchat and reminds us of its multiple failed attempts at copying the ephemeral app. It has tried buying as well as acquiring Snapchat on multiple occasions.
