The phone unveiled on 22 June in India has seen a record sale within seven days, selling as much as three times the company’s previous phone OnePlus 3T in the period.
OnePlus tweeted about the record from its official twitter account, but hasn’t mentioned any sales figure to lay a magnitude to the claim. OnePlus 5, it says, was the ‘highest grossing phone in the launch week on Amazon’.
Recently, users reported of a ‘jelly effect’ on their OnePlus 5 display while scrolling. But OnePlus in a statement issued to xda-developers, said that it is “natural” and that there is “no variance in screens between devices.” This could mean that OnePlus may not be issuing an OTA update to fix that. Since the launch, the company has already pushed a couple of updates and more are on the list already.
OnePlus 5 comes with a dual camera and OnePlus has used the latest Snapdragon 835 chip on the smartphone that right now is powering only two high-end devices – the HTC U11 and the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. The phone has 6GB RAM, 64GB internal storage and runs the latest stock Android 7 Nougat interface.
Though OnePlus has highly touted the dual cameras on the phone, OnePlus 5 is certainly known for more. Despite being slim, the phone retains a headphone jack and has fingerprint sensor at the front, something that high end phones like Google Pixel and Galaxy S8 have moved to the back. It is built in a space grade aluminium chassis and aims to offer the best value for money, like its sibling OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T at Rs 32,999. The 8GB/128GB version available in ‘Midnight Black’ colour sells for Rs 37,999. The phones are available exclusively via Amazon.
