Neeraj Chopra second most mentioned athlete on Facebook

According to media reports, the social networking site recently shared some key trends and data from July 23-August 8, 2021, on Facebook and Instagram as the Tokyo Olympics ended. This year India won seven medals which is its highest ever Olympics tally.
 


In terms of the highest engagement on Facebook during the Tokyo Olympics 2020, India has outranked countries like the US, Brazil, and other nations. India's gold medalist Neeraj Chopra became the second most mentioned athlete on the social media platform globally.

According to media reports, the social networking site recently shared some key trends and data from July 23-August 8, 2021, on Facebook and Instagram as the Tokyo Olympics ended. This year India won seven medals which is its highest ever Olympics tally.

India has outranked countries such as the US and Brazil as the loudest countries engaging about the Tokyo Olympics throughout the Games. The Philippines came in fourth, followed by Mexico.

The most mentioned athletes were USA's gymnast Simone Biles, India's Neeraj Chopra, Filipino weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, USA's gymnast Suni Lee and British diver Tom Daley. The sports that were a part of the trends were track and field, gymnastics, rowing, boxing, and swimming.

As per the report released, the top three days that had maximum engagements globally were August 7, when Neeraj Chopra won gold for India and Team USA basketball won gold. 
The second most trending day was July 28. It was the day after Simone Biles withdrew from the gymnastics team competition. Meanwhile, the third was August 2, when Indonesia's Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu win gold in badminton.
 
Meanwhile, on Instagram, Neeraj Chopra gained 2.8 million new followers, PV Sindhu 7,02,778 and MC Mary Kom 2,70,104 new followers. The most mentioned athletes on Instagram globally were Chopra, Biles, Leal, Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu.
