This intelligent hairbrush from L’Oréal is a perfect example of beauty meets tech

Synopsis

The year 2017 will be all about connected devices. Technology is ready to enter all aspects of your life, and how.  At CES 2017, popular beauty brand L’Oréal showcased its smart hairbrush.

It isn't just phones and kitchen appliances that are getting smarter, beauty products have started jumping on to the bandwagon. In a perfect case of beauty meets technology, L’Oréal has decided to showcase its Smart Hairbrush at CES 2017. There's technology built right into it.

Countless factors affect your hair and one such is your hairbrush. Kérastase Hair Coach powered by Withings (Withings and Kérastase are Loreal's products) has been designed with built-in mic and senors to tell you exactly how you treat your hair. It is accompanied by a smartphone app that  brings all the data to your fingertips.

So, there's a microphone that listens to the sound and detects patterns in the way you brush your hair. The mic along with a three-axis load sensor measures the force with which you brush your hair and scalp. And, the built-in accelerometer and gyroscope will count the brush strokes. The brush has conductivity sensors in the bristles to tell if your hair is wet or dry. The waterproof brush will then adjust the analysis of the technique accordingly. So, if you are being too harsh on your scalp, the app will let you know.

The data collected by the brush is passed on to the smartphone. It also takes under consideration other parameters such as temperature, humidity, wind, and offers tips to improve your brushing habits. It's no concept and a real product that will be available mid-2017 at $200 that translates to roughly Rs 13,600.
