Watch: Why Jio is miffed with Airtel over this TV advertisement

Synopsis

Airtel claims the fastest network in the country.  Airtel has gone ahead and backed it by a speed test conducted by Ookla. Jio upset and calls the advertisement 'misleading'.

Airtel and Jio have locked horns, yet again. This time it's over an advertisement that claims Airtel has the fastest network in the country. This hasn't gone down well with Jio, who also claims to offer the fastest network in the country.

However, Airtel has gone ahead and backed it by a speed test conducted by Ookla. Ookla offers an online platform that conducts broadband tests of networks.

In a letter, Reliance Jio has written to Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) that the advertisement is misleading and conveys false information. On the other hand, Airtel said that it has received a letter from Ookla's Jamie Steven specifying the same.

Jio is believed to have sent a court notice to Ookla, but in the latest updates, Ookla has told Gadgets360 that no notice has been sent. Airtel said that Jio's allegations are 'deliberate attempt to malign the brand'.

Reliance Jio and its free offers have shook the telecom sector in India. Vodafone, Airtel, BSNL and others have been trying to churn out plans to combat the Jio offer. recently, Vodafone and idea teamed up to become the biggest telco in India, pushing Airtel to the second position.
